NOTE: This is a level design contribution post looking for feedback from YT channel @Jesus_Machina, who explains design concepts and sets weekly challenges. This time, the challenge is to pick a design exercise you already made and present it as if it were a portfolio piece you’d create if you were a famous designer.

Controls (Keyboard, XBOX controller, PS controller):

  • WASD / Left Stick - Move/Crouch
  • Space / A / X - Jump

Design:

First I developed some guidelines based on the player's basic movement to control the future levels design, you can see them in https://2d-spatial-guidelines.my.canva.site/spatial-guidelines

Then I designed a level with the following goals:

  • Introducing the navigation mechanics (i.e. jump, ledge grab, crouch and slide)
  • Setting a hint of a new mechanic (double jump in this case)
  • Reaching a boss fight arena that unlocks said mechanic
